Peony Petals & The Heady Scent of June

Sweet Dreams are Made of Silken Peony Petals

When the early morning air is moist and still and the garden is filled with pale light, I step outside to drink in the fragrance of springtime. Of course, there are many flowers at this time of year; iris, laurel, roses and baptisia. But there is one flower, above all others, that will always be my favorite. Unabashedly voluptuous, undeniably feminine and exquisitely fragrant; to me peonies define the month of June…

Mm,hmm… I’m still waiting for ours to even bud up, but even so, I can imagine the fragrance wafting from yours. (We’re still inhaling Dame’s Rocket and the Black Locust have just started to send out their waves of perfume: )

  • Deb Weyrich-Cody says:

Oops, correction: just went out and checked and those little sneakers are not only budded, but starting to show colour! Man, things are just screaming right along, now that we’re getting some serious heat around here! It seems like we’ve gone straight into Summer; almost skipping Spring altogether.

  • Michaela says:

@ Deb, I always put a few in the fridge when the buds are swollen and ready to burst. Then I bring them out later, when the peonies outside have faded. How obsessed is that?? ;) xo Enjoy the season!
