❧ Potting Shed

The ever-growing collection of terracotta pots and vessels in my garden…

There’s more to a great garden than plants. This is the page where I will be adding items I find, like and use for gardening and decorating both indoors and out: containers, garden accessories and other handy things you might find in a potting shed or bench, as well as beautiful and unusual garden ornaments, bird feeders, houses, etc. I am aiming to include garden objects in various styles, from Modern to Classic, Mediterranean to Gothic, and beyond. If you are looking for an interesting gift or something special for your own garden, check back from time to time. I will add a few high-quality, (some inexpensive and some higher end), things here and there as I find them, and I will include links to online sources for the items. If a link isn’t working, please let me know via email, (these are links to outside websites, I don’t sell anything directly through this blog).

French Florist Bucket $14.99 available from Amazon.com

Florists buckets, galvanized pails and tubs are excellent for gardening indoors and out. I use tall and short buckets for collecting cut flowers and branches, or for casual floral arrangements. I use the short buckets as candle holders, organizers, vases, planters, and myriad other decorative and organizing tasks. The large tubs are useful as planters, ice-and-beverage holders, kindling-wood storage, and even for floating candles and flowers at a party. They are inexpensive and durable…

Inexpensive terracotta and glazed planters are a good investment for gardening indoors and out. Here are some stylish, good deals I found online…

This pot is being sold with basil seed as an herb planter. It would work for a variety of herbs and that is how I would use it. But you could also insert cactus or other succulents, (particularly trailing types). This is just a classic, and it’s a great price…

Smith and Hawken  Grow Pot – Basil ($9.99)

Smith and Hawken – Grow Pot – Strawberry ($14.99)

This pot is sold with lettuce seed for starting an indoor kitchen-garden. But the pot could be used for anything really, and it’s a great shape for porches and patios or windowsills. Pretty and simple and very inexpensive…

Smith and Hawken – Grow Pot – Lettuce ($9.99)

Here is an indoor pot to satisfy the modernist, the minimalist and pretty much any apartment dweller. This is sold as a kit with strawberry seed, but you could use the pot for herbs, trailing plants, succulents… you name it.

Smith and Hawken – Grow Pot – Strawberry ($19.99)

Smith and Hawken – Round Planter ($12.99)

Smith and Hawken – Rectangle Planter ($14.99)

I fell in love with Talavera style planters when I was a kid, visiting Mexico as an exchange student. Although I am something of a minimalist when it comes to pots and planters, this little beauty is calling to me with all sorts of potential. The rounded shape is versatile and elegant, and the handles are a sweet detail. From oversized dahlias, bold zinnia and bright orangey pelargoniums to exotic succulent combinations, or even herbs… this is a true sunshine-fiesta flowerpot. I am stalking it online daily…
