The Beauty of Harvest Season …

The Glorious Colors of Harvest Season: Multicolored Gourds, Pumpkins & Squash

Columbus Day Weekend is traditionally the time when my sister and I meet up to carve pumpkins, roast their sweet & salty seeds, drink mulled cider and bask in the warmth of early October sunshine. In New England, these are the days of  bonfire gatherings, harvest festivals, heirloom apple tastings, bulb planting and fruit crisp sampling. Hope you are enjoying the beauty of the season, wherever you are!

Zeke Goodband of Scott Farm makes the world’s best heirloom apple cider. Warming cider brings out the wonderfully complex flavors, and on cold evenings, I often enjoy a mug of hot, mulled cider by the fire. I have two favorite mulling spice recipes:  find the first by clicking here and another —which also makes wonderful mulled wine— by clicking here …

Hi Michaela, Happy Columbus Day/Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend to you! Wow, it seems like only yesterday I last said that to you (but it HAS been a bit of a busy year, hasn’t it? ; )
I do so love your Vermont Stove’s elegant legs and Very Victorian detail… You know, we almost bought a Vermont Castings when shopping for an airtight but wound up getting one from the Elmira (Ontario) Stove Works instead… (very efficient – sturdy and utilitarian, but not the least bit pretty):
Hope your weather’s as unbelievably gorgeous as it is here! xo D

(My wood stove is a Jotul. I did have a Vermont Castings in my previous home … Lovely and trusty old gal that she was!)
